![]() ![]() I am sure I don't (yet) leverage darktable's full potential.ĭarktable itself has no professional import function from the camera does it? I mean a function to rename files into something like YYYYMMDD-Event-xxxx. But I have all my photos organized in classical folders, i.e., I have many film rolls in darktable. Hugin is another tool that I use often, about 30-40% of my photos are panoramas.Īs for Fuji's X-Trans, luckily the Markesteijn demosaic is really good (at least better than Adobe's) so we're on a good track.ĭo you use darktable's DAM to manage your photos? And yes, rsync is the easiest tool to sync to multiple external HDDs. I organized photos into folders with a naming convention (e.g. I have the whole collection on external 5TB drive, and keep only a small subset that I'm working on my internal 500GB SSD. I don't use darktable's DAM as my collection is so far 1.5TB dated back to 2003. I don't use Exiftool often, as the full EXIF data can be viewed in both Geeqie and darktable, only when I need to search through a large collection or extracting the preview/thumbnail from RAW. darktable is my main tool (shooting RAW) and Geeqie as default viewer. Just to share a bit about my setup: been using Ubuntu exclusively for 14-15 years now. That's why my post is in the PC forum and not here in the Fuji-X forum.ĭo you use darktable's DAM to manage your photos? If you want to go toward pure free/open-source, Geeqie is a really lightweight and color-managed photo viewer. Hope they'll take care of Lensfun, too, in the future! Provided you have enabled lens correction as a default module. Also for zooms including consideration of the fl. If you have the required information in the Exif data (lens model, fl, aperture - which is the case for all XF lenses), and if Lensfun has a profile for the respective lens, darktable applies the correction automatically. I cannot see any specific link to Linux, darktable, Zerene, etc. Yes OK but this is a very general aspect. Since Adobe switched to the license model, there may be a growing interest in solutions like Raw Therapee or darktable. This is the place where I learned how to best emulate the Fuji film sims. I know there is a certain darktable community here in the Fuji-X forum. The answer why I posted it at all: I believe it's a give and take in our community. The answer why I posted on DPReview is banal: number one, DPReview is the only photography forum where I am currently active, and number two, I like it here ![]() An eternity in IT.Ī little question on the side: does Darktable pickup the lens protocols embedded or do you need to hand-correct distortion? That could be quite a task for some zoom lenses, but what do I know? □Īnd finally: where is the Fuji link here? You shoot Fuji and believe your software setup is better? Same, but different?īut you saw I posted it in the PC forum? Here in the Fuji-X forum here where you replied to is just a cross reference - because this is my "home" forum. In version 20 it is still part of their software, 16 years later. A silly mainstream example might be that in 2004 Capture One had a process in their software package called "soft sharpening". Replication of processes and future proofness are other aspects. possibly not the best forum to promote a tinkerers approach to life where exif tools and zerene stacker might not trigger off any excessive desire to go down that route.Īnd then there is the aspect of learning unfamiliar software where the number of people one can share this with isn't large - unless you happen to be living in such a bubble. Better invest into the camera and lensesĪehm. It is just incredible what you can do without a big investment. Just wanted to let you know that I shared my experience how to set up a photo management system on Linux Mint Ulyana in the PC forum. ![]() As we have described previously, Mint normally does not adopt the HWE kernel updates from its upstream Ubuntu LTS – Mint 21.2 retains the original 5.15 that Ubuntu shipped in April last year – so this is a bit of a departure. The other thing announced in the blog post is something new for the Mint project: what it terms "EDGE" releases, which will also feature the new kernel 6.2. Debian 12 "Bookworm" came out in June, and just got its first point release, which will form the basis of the next LMDE release, expected at the end of the year. The latest blog post from the Mint project reveals that work has begun on LMDE 6, to be codenamed "Faye". The fourth variant is Linux Mint Debian Edition, which is currently on version 5, codenamed "Elsie", which is based on Debian 11. The latest release is 21.2, released just last month. There are four editions: each Ubuntu-based release comes with a choice of three desktops, Cinnamon (forked from GNOME 3), MATE (forked from GNOME 2) or Xfce. Both are developed in the Republic of Ireland, but by developers who originally hail from elsewhere. Both offer a high-end desktop based on GNOME plus extensive customisations, which bring it closer to the look and feel of Windows 10 or 11, but both also offer lighter editions for lower-end kit, based on Xfce. Both add Flatpak support, which Ubuntu omits from recent versions. Both aim to deliver a more comfortable, Windows-like experience. Both are small families of distros, rather than a single edition. ![]() For two entirely separate projects, there's quite a lot of common ground between them. Two of the more polished end-user desktop Linux distros are Linux Mint and Zorin OS. It seems to be working perfectly smoothly, and if we hadn't been watching out for it we might not even have noticed. We've tried it on our own Thinkpad X220, and it's true: without prompting, we got upgraded from kernel 5.19 to 6.2. We read some reports, via OMGUbuntu, that the latest update to "Jammy Jellyfish" includes the new kernel 6.2. DaVinci Resolve! It’s an editing program that can be used to make all kinds of different films, including stop-motion! ![]() I do think that the house renovations are a missed opportunity as the idea of attracting a specific client to purchase the property creates a more tangible goal to work towards than just “improving” it in the hopes someone will pay more for it than you did. There is no denying that House Flipper has its appeal. If they do, and you are satisfied with the profit you can sell the house and more onto the next one, or back to your list of odd jobs. It isn’t necessary that you go to this length though because you can put the house straight back into auction with you barely doing anything and see whether any of the prospective buyers are willing to offer you more than you paid for it. I am a frustrated interior designer it seems. ![]() If you can be bothered you can even start to furnish the house, which I will admit I seemed to spend a long time doing. Instead, you can clean things up, perhaps knock a wall down or too and re-tile the bathroom, then add some radiators and fix the electrics. There was a nice old couple that came to look at each one of the houses I was doing up and I wanted to be able to create a home that they would like, but there doesn’t seem to be a way that you can directly influence that, which I think is a missed opportunity. It is a shame that these aren’t more obvious. “I only need one bedroom”, or “there’s a kitchen and I don’t understand what I need it for”. You won’t know what these are though, merely getting periodical prompts popping up on one side of your screen. Doing these things will start to attract a clientele of potential buyers each with their own requirements for what they perceive to be an ideal home. All of them need extensive work, the most obvious being tidying up mess, repainting walls and generally bringing the house back into some order. The houses available for sale range from around thirty thousand and go up from there. This is where the game sort of breaks down a little. Browsing via your laptop again there are a variety of houses that you can purchase and do up. It is a neat way of increasing your stats and giving you a sense that you are improving in your work, after all it is only be doing a thing will you get better at it.Īfter a while you can start to play the housing market. Paint enough walls and you can plump points in to using less paint or painting more than one section at a time. Clean up a certain amount of other people’s mess and you can spend your points on a better brush and a faster clean up rate. You can use these to make your life a little more bearable. Performing tasks over and over will eventually award you skill points. It is all straight-forward stuff, mind numbing stuff, but it is oddly compelling. Gradually you get more complex jobs: a lady wants her house repainting a man has seen a neighbour knock down walls to create a more open space and he wants the same another client wants their child to have their own bedroom so could you please erect a wall and buy some furniture. The first has you cleaning up a bit and replacing a stolen radiator. You will receive emails from potential clients asking you to do odd jobs for them. ![]() Your laptop is your main way of obtaining work. Not that you need to spend much time in your shack come office, it is merely a location for you to pick up tasks and browse the housing market. You can’t do much in the beginning, you can clean up and move stuff around, but the more complicated stuff only comes to you as you progress through your list of jobs. Your “office” is a essentially a shack that requires some sprucing up. No matter, it seems that I really like painting walls and arranging furniture. By doing so I think I missed some essential tutorial work that the odd job stuff is disguised as. I went straight to buying houses the minute I could, my desire to be some kind of landlord with a massive portfolio of houses driving out my desire to be known as the best “odd job man” around. I also wonder if I have been playing it the wrong way, if that is even possible. One where you do odd jobs for clients to raise money so that you can purchase dilapidated houses to do up and sell for massive profit. It’s also stupidly addictive and I cannot stop playing it.įor the uninitiated, House Flipper is a simulation game. The kind of boring that has you drifting off, not really focusing on anything in particular, your mind wandering as you fix radiators to walls and clean up other people’s mess. ![]() ![]() Comparative valuation analysis is a catch-all model that can be used if you cannot value Beyond Meat by discounting back its dividends or cash flows. The company also has a substantial amount of debt in its capital structure, which may become a meaningful risk factor in the current high-interest rate environment. Moreover, the company is dealing with low utilization of plants, lower revenue per pound, and termination of co-manufacturing agreements. In the U.S., the company’s distribution has maxed out, while inventory levels remain high. There are a number of headwinds that continue to pressure BYND stock going forward. While we acknowledge that it is not surprising for Beyond Meat to be unprofitable since it is a fairly young company (IPO in May 2019), still in its investing phase, the weak financials in the last few quarters have made investors skeptical about its growth ahead. Compared to its peers, BYND has not yet earned a full-year profit. Beyond Meat’s stock remains under pressure as revenue continues to fall and solvency concerns persist. The company’s stock has declined thanks to the combination of inflation, pandemic-related shifts in demand, and rising competition. BYND stock has dropped from around $24 to $13 over the last twelve months, largely underperforming the broader indices, with the S&P growing about 16% over the same period. After almost a 46% decline over the last twelve months, at the current price of around $13 per share, we believe Beyond Meat stock (NASDAQ: BYND), a plant-based meat alternative – could see more weakness. |
